Design Story and Inspiration for this Crochet Duffle Bag
This bag was created for a story of striped projects for I Like Crochet magazine. I love creating crochet bags, but I’d never done a duffle bag before so I thought it would be a perfect fit!
I wanted this project to be pretty beginner-friendly, so I used simple half double crochet in a stripe pattern.
Yarn Options for a Crochet Duffle Bag
For this project I chose Red Heart Soft, an acrylic yarn that holds up well to wear, is easy to wash and is very affordable. I love teal so it was an easy choice when I saw this color! The off-white with the teal gave me beachy vibes and I loved it!
If you are using up your stash yarn, choose any worsted weight yarn (weight #4) that you have lying around. This bag would even be fun in several colors! That would be a great way to use up scrap yarn and the odds and ends lying about, as gauge doesn’t need to be perfect for this project.

Pattern Details
This pattern is created in three body pieces – the two ends and a large main panel. Then they are attached and the two straps are crocheted and attached.
I did line mine with a fabric lining and you can get an idea of how to do this with this article on how to line a crochet bag. (Just follow along with this bag shape instead of the Buckle Bag).
Also, to reinforce the handles you could stitch a strap or cord in the middle of the handle for extra stability if desired.
