Looking for a great openwork stitch for market bags, shawls or summer tops? Try the Boxed Shell Stitch – an easy two row repeat!

About This Stitch

The boxed shell stitch, with its open and airy nature, is a great choice for projects where breathability and drape are desired. Here are some items that would be well-suited for this stitch:

  • Summer Tops & Shawls: The open pattern allows for excellent airflow, keeping the wearer cool on warm days. The stitch creates a beautiful, textured fabric that adds visual interest to garments.
  • Scarves & Wraps: The boxed shell stitch can create lightweight and delicate scarves or wraps that add a touch of elegance to an outfit.
  • Home Decor Items: The stitch can be used to create beautiful and unique home decor items such as table runners, placemats, curtains, or even wall hangings.
  • Bags & Purses: The open pattern allows for items to be seen through the bag, adding a touch of visual interest. The stitch creates a sturdy fabric that can hold its shape well, great for market bags.

Additionally, the boxed shell stitch can be combined with other crochet stitches to create even more interesting and versatile projects. Its open nature makes it a great choice for projects that require a bit of stretch or flexibility.
