Design Story and Inspiration for our Crochet Ankle Socks
I love designing slippers and socks, so I decided that this year for the Holiday Maker’s Challenge I would design a fun pair of ankle socks that work up quickly, even with fingering weight yarn.
For the challenge, I design patterns that meet the following:
Quick to make
Great to give
Uses up stash yarn
This yarn fit the bill for all of these for me! It used up some fingering weight yarn I had (yes, I know crocheters don’t use a lot of fingering weight, but it makes for some amazing projects!), is a great gift and worked up quickly because it’s all in double crochet.
The thing about making crochet socks with fingering weight yarn is that they are more comfortable on the feet than the thicker yarns.
So, don’t be fooled by the yarn weight – these are still a quick project!
Yarn Options for Our Easy Crochet Sock Pattern
You will need a fingering weight yarn for this pattern (category #1). I like to knit socks, so I usually have fingering weight yarn lying around, and this leftover Knit Picks Muse Fingering was just begging to be made into something, so these crochet socks were born!
You can use any fingering weight yarn that gets gauge. One of the best things I like about crocheting socks is that I work from the toe up (which I don’t do in knitting yet) and I try them on as I go. Makes it a lot easier!

Hello
I haven’t made these yet but as I read through the pattern Rnds 23(25;27) say to dc in 22(24,26) and join. Is this correct? It appears to be the foot of the sock but only on 1/2 the stitches.
Thank you
amanda
Hi, the instructions here are to dc in each dc around and join… there was an error in the pdf which will be corrected for Saturday’s email (for challenge members) with an updated pdf. This pattern is correct. 🙂
Emma
TY!
