Let’s get festive with some free and cute crochet projects for Christmas. It’s never too early to start thinking about decorating for Christmas! The best place to start your festive decorations is with your front door. It’s the first thing people will see when they come to visit you so why not crochet a wonderful Christmas decoration so you can spruce the place up a bit?

Do you know how to crochet a wreath? If you have never crocheted a wreath before, then you might be a little intimidated. Lucky for you, it’s actually super easy to crochet a basic wreath! Many of the free crochet Christmas wreath patterns that we are featuring today can be made with just basic crochet stitches and simple sewing techniques.

You will notice that a lot of the free crochet Christmas wreath patterns on our list today call for some type of wreath form. There are all sorts of different wreath forms out there and they can easily be found at any craft store and even at the dollar store too. If you don’t have one laying around and don’t want to make a trip to the store, you can also make do with DIY cardboard wreath forms.

What type of yarn is best for crochet wreaths? If you are planning on hanging your wreath on your front door, then you should choose a hardy yarn that will stand up to the weather. Cotton is a safe bet because it is both strong and inexpensive. The color of yarn may fade over time in direct sunlight, though, so keep that in mind. Instead of the front door, you could use a crochet Christmas wreath pattern as an indoor decoration instead – over the mantle, over the kitchen table, or over an entryway.

Ok, I really can’t wait any longer to start talking about these amazing crochet Christmas wreath patterns I’ve curated for you today. So scroll down for a little wreath love!

Braided Christmas Wreath

Turn up the texture with a wreath created from 3 long tubes of crochet stitches braided together. This pattern actually doesn’t call for a wreath form at all because the strong braid is all the foundation that it needs. The fancy flowers attached to the Christmas poinsettia wreath help hide the unsightly spot where the braided ends join.

Christmas Wreath

A cardboard circle is used as the base for this simple festive wreath. The pattern calls for single, half double, and double crochet stitches along with picot stitches. You attach everything to the cardboard circle using craft glue, so there’s no sewing involved (which is a definite plus in my book!). I love this easy pine cone pattern, too!
