Looking for a free knit sweater pattern that works up super quickly? Check out the Elbow Patch Sweater knit in super bulky yarn.
Design Story and Inspiration for the Elbow Patch Knit Sweater Pattern
I love working with Super Bulky yarn. It works up so fast and the texture is divine.
I really wanted to create a knit sweater that would be easy enough for an advanced beginner and also work up quickly to give confidence to someone starting out with knit garments.
This sweater is super thick and comfy thanks to the super bulky yarn, and should be on any ski trip packing list!
About the Yarn
I am in love with every yarn I’ve ever gotten from Malabrigo, and this Rasta yarn was definitely no exception!
The subtle shade variations give this yarn a depth that takes it above and beyond most all other super bulky yarns I’ve worked with.
That with the 100% wool content just make it a joy to work with.
If you would like to substitute yarn, check out Sugarbush Chill or Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick. As long as you work with a #6 weight yarn that gets gauge, you should be good to go.
Knit Sweater Pattern Details
This sweater is worked in separate pieces and sewn together. It features raglan shaping and a classic crew neck with a ribbed collar.
The elbow patches are sewn on last, giving it an extra element without a lot of technical know-how.

I’d love to make it in crochet but I don’t have a definite plan on that yet 🙂

Is it possible to make the sleeves without the patches?

Love this pattern. Thank you. I can’t wait to try it. I still haven’t gotten up my nerve to try a knitted sweater, but soon.
