Design Story and Inspiration for the Valentine Baby Set
I love creating baby things, and when All Free Knitting put out a submission call for Valentine items, I knew I wanted to create a set for that publication.
Baby dresses are really one of my favorite things to make (even though I have all boys!) so I started with a simple silhouette to let the felt pockets be the star of the show.
The striped pants (or leggings, if you prefer!) were a challenge as I had never designed pants before. They fit my little guy perfectly! He and his best friend graciously modeled these for me.
About the Yarn
Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice is a wonderful, easy to care for acrylic yarn that has a nice feel to it. I chose it for this design because it’s available in so many colors and it really does wash and wear well.
I love this color combo together, too! It’s a lighter teal/sage green and an off-white. I love these two!
Valentine Baby Set Pattern Details
Yarn: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice (100% Acrylic; 170 yards [156 meters]/100 grams): #177 Sage (CC, 1 skein), #099 Linen (MC, 1 skein)
Needles: US size 9 (5.5 mm) straight
Notions: Tapestry needle, two ½” heart-shaped buttons for dress, 1 sheet red felt, matching thread, sewing needle
Skill Level: Intermediate
Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking
Finished Sizes:
Dress: Finished Chest Size 16.5 (17, 18, 19, 20)” for infant size 3 (6, 12, 18, 24) months
Pants: Finished Waist Size 17 (18, 20)” for baby size 6 (12, 18) months
