Whatโ€™s tall and yellow with spots all over? Thatโ€™s right! This week we are talking about giraffe crochet patterns. Weโ€™re giving you the inside scoop on all things crochet giraffes. Thereโ€™s amigurumi giraffes, and other giraffe themed items too like bags, blankets, and more!

There are a lot of different giraffe crochet patterns out there but each one brings something special to the table. Some are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and some are nearly a foot tall. Some sit up on their own and some are adorably floppy like a ragdoll. Some are more realistic and some are more whimsical. The only thing these designers might be even more creative about is all the different names they thought up that started with โ€œGโ€!

If you have never crocheted amigurumi before, donโ€™t sweat it. Giraffe crochet patterns might not be the easiest amigurumi projects to tackle because of all of the details, but a confident beginner can still tackle it. The nice thing about amigurumi is that it only uses single crochet stitches. Pay attention if an amigurumi pattern calls for double crochet stitches. It might actually be in UK terminology. Double crochet in UK terminology is the same as single crochet in US terminology, so keep that in mind!

If you love giraffes or if you know someone who does, then you are going to love all of these amazing giraffe crochet patterns! Scroll down and see them for yourself. Prepare to be inspired!

Gerald the Giraffe

Gerald the giraffe stands 10.5โ€ tall, which makes him the perfect size for snuggles. If you like to make amigurumi to display, then you are sure to appreciate that he can sit up on his own. The most unique thing about Gerald is that his spots are multiple colors. They are crocheted separately and then sewn on at the end.

Gary the Giraffe

If you thought the last one of our giraffe crochet patterns was a good size, then get a load of this giant friend! This soft stuffed animal is made with super bulky weight velvet yarn. There is also a free crochet pattern for the matching giraffe mitts and headband.

Rag Doll Giraffe

crochet giraffe pattern that appears to be sleeping

Looks like this giraffe is all tuckered out. Embroidering closed eyes on amigurumi is a little easier than open ones. Plus, it gives the stuffed animal a serene, sleeping look. You could try leaving the body of the giraffe unstuffed if you really want to amp up the ragdoll factor. Thereโ€™s something so irresistibly adorable about floppy stuffies!

Designer: Yarn Over with Natasha
Yarn: Charity (Saprotex) Double Knit Pullskein (DK Weight #3)

Giraffe Bag

crochet giraffe backpack

You can use tapestry crochet colorwork to make the spots on this cute giraffe bag. The flap of the bag is embellished and embroidered to resemble a giraffeโ€™s head. Youโ€™ll be using single crochet stitches for this one (the pattern is in UK terminology, so it calls them double crochet stitches).

Gigi Giraffe

Gigi Giraffe has such unique spots! Instead of crocheting little circles and sewing them on, the spots are embroidered. I like the organic look that this gives the spots and I especially like how no two spots look exactly alike. She sure is a cute little giraffe!

C2C Giraffe

Did you know that there are giraffe crochet patterns for the home too? This 22 inch square C2C giraffe graph can be used as part of a blanket or a throw pillow. Heck, you could even just frame the darn thing and hang it on your wall. Itโ€™s really that cute! I think that it would work especially well for a childโ€™s bedroom or nursery.

Crochet Giraffe

You arenโ€™t limited to yellow and brown with these giraffe crochet patterns! The signature โ€œhornsโ€ (fun fact: they are not actually horns since they are made from cartilage and not bone – they are called ossicones) on top of the giraffeโ€™s head are a dead giveaway. So you can experiment with fun color combinations – like yellow and blue – and youโ€™ll still be able to instantly tell that itโ€™s a giraffe.

Jiffi the Giraffe

hand holding up a crochet giraffe against wall

You may notice that many of these giraffe crochet patterns do not have very long necks. Thatโ€™s probably because it would be very difficult to make a long neck that could still support the weight of the head without falling over. Luckily, short neck giraffes in crochet form are just as cute as their long necked inspirations in the wild.

Giraffe Toy with Scarf

crochet giraffe with scarf

Do you ever wonder if giraffesโ€™ necks get cold? You can make sure that your amigurumi giraffe is always cozy by making them a little scarf accessory. And I do mean little because this Giraffe Toy with Scarf is only 5 inches tall. Thatโ€™s the perfect size for an animal friend that you can take with you everywhere.

Flip Flop Giraffe

Quick question: whatโ€™s your least favorite part about crocheting amigurumi? If you said sewing, just know that you are not alone! Luckily, this clever design has a no-sew option. That, along with the soft bulky weight yarn, is sure to save you time. You will be done crocheting this cute little giraffe in no time!

 Giraffe Lovey Puppet

This design combines an amigurumi, a baby blanket lovey, and a puppet to create the most precious mash-up Iโ€™ve ever seen. A toy like this can really grow with your child and is sure to be appreciated for years and years. You can make one of your own using single, half double, and double crochet stitches.

Gregory the Giraffe

Here is one of our giraffe crochet patterns with a more realistic appearance. Gregory the Giraffe has a long neck and lots of spots on his back – of all different sizes. He is a good sized toy, even though he is made with DK weight yarn. If you make him with bulky or super bulky yarn, then he would be even bigger!

Gill the Giraffe

small crochet giraffe with removeable dress

Gill the Giraffe is five and a half inches of pure cuteness. Crochet or not, pretty much anytime you put clothes on an animal you have a recipe for instant cuteness. Gill the Giraffe is no exception! The best part is that the dress is crocheted separately so your kiddo can have fun playing dress up.

Amelia the Giraffe

If you are worried about your kiddo losing the giraffeโ€™s dress, then you can try this one instead. Amelia the Giraffeโ€™s dress is crocheted as part of her body so thereโ€™s no chance of it going missing. This free crochet pattern is very detailed and includes many photos that are sure to help you out along the way.

Giraffe Blanket

Upgrade a basic granny stitch blanket by making an adorable cartoon giraffe the star of the show. A solid yellow square at the center of the throw is embellished with applique horns, ears, eyes, spots, and a muzzle to resemble a giraffe. You could even use these applique patterns on other projects like a cute little baby sweater or a friendly throw pillow.

Giraffe C2C Square

You can use the corner to corner crochet technique to make this realistic giraffe square! Combine it with the designerโ€™s other safari-themed squares to make a blanket, or make a blanket out of all giraffe squares. It would be extra cute if each giraffe background was a different color – like pop art!

Grayson the Giraffe

Hereโ€™s an idea for giraffe crochet patterns that we havenโ€™t seen yet. Felt is used to add the spots on the giraffe as well as the inner part of the ears. This handy little trick is sure to save you some time over crocheting spots. Plus, I think that the spots look a little more realistic since they are such nice organic shapes and no two are alike.

Mini Safari Friends Giraffe

Giraffes are massive in the wild, but in the crochet world they can be as small as the palm of your hand! These mini safari friends are quick and easy to make, so they are perfect for when you are wanting to make more than one. Donโ€™t feel like you are limited to yellow and brown. Pink and purple can be just as cute!

Ginnie the Giraffe

Ginnie is a good sized giraffe thatโ€™s perfect for hugging and providing comfort. Her long floppy limbs are so adorably endearing and I love the fact that she can sit up on her own. The spots are crocheted separately and then sewn on afterward. There are a couple different spot sizes to shake things up.

Ragdoll Giraffe

Hereโ€™s another one of our giraffe crochet patterns with a very distinct style. This stuffed animal is crocheted in two pieces by working in back and forth rows. The two pieces – front and back – are then sandwiched together and sewn up around the edges with a little stuffing in between. This style is an especially good option if you are not comfortable working in the round.

A Very Little Giraffe

tiny giraffe amigurumi in front of toy tree

This giraffe may be little but she has a big personality. The design features a realistic giraffe body shape complete with a long neck. I am very impressed that the designer was able to make it so the giraffe could stand up on her own. The spots are made from felt and the cute little tail is achieved by tying on a bit of yarn and unraveling the strands.

Final Thoughts about Giraffe Crochet Patterns

Wow, I hope you’ve enoyed these free giraffe crochet patterns! I loved seeing all of the amazing designs and noticing what made each one special. A cute amigurumi giraffe would be a perfect gift. I made one for a friend’s baby one year and included an adorable giraffe board book, too!

I can’t get enough of these cute crochet giraffe patterns. I love how each designer turned this cute animal into a unique crochet giraffe pattern. If you have a friend who loves giraffes, or one who is planning a giraffe theme for baby’s nursery, one of these patterns would be a great project for you. (A stuffed giraffe is a great baby gift).

Any skill level can crochet a giraffe. Even beginner crocheters! You don’t have to be an advanced crocheter. What you will need to know how to do (or be able to learn) is the make the magic ring (also called the magic circle) as most amigurumi patterns begin with this technique, as well as how to single crochet in the round. Those are the basics you’ll need to know, but you can find more detailed instructions in the pattern you choose.

You’ll also need some yellow yarn, brown yarn (cotton or acrylic yarn are best), a hook size appropriate for your yarn (typically smaller than what is called for on the yarn label), a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and seaming if your pattern calls for separate pieces, black yarn for embroidery (or safety eyes), and some polyester fiberfill for stuffing. A stitch marker is also helpful for marking your first stitch.

I look forward to seeing you all again next week for another free crochet pattern round-up. I hope that you all have as much fun reading these posts as I do writing them! Do make sure and click follow so you can get notified when the next post is live.

Wait, one more thing! Donโ€™t forget to save this page to your Pinterest board for crochet or add a bookmark in your browser. This is one free crochet pattern round-up that you will definitely be using again and again.

Happy Crocheting!

Hi. How do you get the head of the giraffe to stay firmly and not flop when it is attached to the body?

      April 17, 2023 at 2:19 am

Each designer has their own way of working the head. My favorite way is to work the head as one with the body and stuff it very firmly, but I know that there are various ways the designers in this group have used. ๐Ÿ™‚
