Design Story and Inspiration for This Crochet Gift Card Holder

It’s that time of year again where I design for my annual Holiday Maker’s Challenge!! This is the 7th year that I have done the challenge, and I’m excited to be doing it again!

I designed this pattern as part of the 2025 Holiday Maker’s Challenge, where we encourage each other to work to our holiday deadline. There are a few criteria for our patterns in the challenge, which are:

1. Uses stash yarn

2. Is easy to intermediate

3. Is small so it doesn’t take a long time to make (we have a lot of gifts to make, okay?)

4. Is well received by gift recipients

This fits the bill by using up less than a skein of yarn! I used up some stash yarn in this project and love the way it turned out. 😀

Yarn Options for This Fun Gift Card Holder

For this pattern, I used Malabrigo Worsted, a wonderful wool worsted weight yarn that I had left over from the Tie Sleeve Tee. I love the color changes and thought the green was perfect for an ornament!

The top is just some scrap gray yarn that I had. This project is wonderful for using up leftover worsted weight yarn (category #4), so grab that yarn and get busting!

Pattern Details for Our Crochet Money Holder

This pattern is created in two pieces and single crocheted together. You will need to know how to make a magic ring, chain, single crochet, single crochet 2 together, double crochet and front post double crochet. Don’t worry, it’s not hard!

Final Thoughts on the Crochet Gift Card or Money Holder

I hope you enjoy this pattern as much as I enjoyed designing it!! I love gifts that work for anyone on your list. 😀

Happy Crocheting!

I think the gift card holder is a great idea and I have supplied some dried lavender to use after the gift card has been used so as not waste my holder. I think it is a different and practical gift.

That is such a wonderful idea! I didn’t even think of that. 😀
