Whip up this beautiful tartan plaid blanket with just single crochet! Works up super fast with jumbo yarn and a large hook. 9 sizes included!

Design Story and Inspiration for the Tartan Plaid Sherpa Blanket
I was asked by Lion Brand to design something with their Go for Fleece Sherpa and as soon as I saw the amazing softness of this yarn I knew it had to be a blanket (my youngest claimed it as his about halfway through the making!).
We recently had an ice storm in our area and had to stay home for a few days. I had already been working on this blanket and being home more allowed me to finish it up sooner than I had anticipated. I loooooove the way it turned out and I hope you do, too!
One of the things I absolutely LOVE about this blanket is the reversible aspect of it – check out the video to see the whole blanket!! You can see the side where I did the surface crochet and the back has a wonderful straight line. I love both sides.
The Tartan Plaid Sherpa Blanket uses surface crochet to give it vertical lines of contrasting colors. It’s super easy, though, and if you can single crochet, you can make this! The video tutorial will walk you through it. 🙂

Yarn Options for this Cozy Plush Throw
This yarn is Lion Brand Go for Fleece Sherpa, which is a fantasticly cozy, squishy yarn. And it is SO warm! I loved having this in my lap as I crocheted it – especially when I got to the surface slip stitch and border!
You can use any jumbo (category #7) yarn you like, or crochet with several strands held together to get a similar gauge. If you want it like mine it’s best to go for the fleece-y type yarns.

Pattern Notes
The body of the blanket is created using single crochets and chains to make chain-spaces. After the blanket body is worked, we will come back and use surface slip-stitch through the chain spaces to create the vertical stripes.
The border adds an additional 4” on each side.
