Whip up an easy pair of crochet mittens using this easy pattern for the Basic Bulky Crochet Mittens!

Design Story and Inspiration for These Crochet Mittens
It’s that time of year again where I design for my annual Holiday Maker’s Challenge!! This is the 7th year that I have done the challenge, and I’m excited to be doing it again!
I designed this pattern as part of the 2025 Holiday Maker’s Challenge, where we encourage each other to work to our holiday deadline. There are a few criteria for our patterns in the challenge, which are:
1. Uses stash yarn
2. Is easy to intermediate
3. Is small so it doesn’t take a long time to make (we have a lot of gifts to make, okay?)
4. Is well received by gift recipients
About 8 years ago I designed these Basic Crochet Mittens using worsted weight yarn and they have been SO popular! I’ve designed several other mittens over the years, but decided a bulky pair was needed.
Yarn Options for Crochet Mittens
For this pattern, I used Scheepjes Chunky Monkey, a bulky weight yarn that is wonderful for projects like these. It’s a category #5 yarn, so it works up quickly.
You can use any bulky weight yarn that gets gauge. I’ve even gotten correct gauge with two strands of worsted held together, so feel free to mix and match and use up that stash! (Just check your gauge first!) 🙂
Pattern Details for the Basic Bulky Mittens
This pattern is worked from the cuff up. The cuff is worked back and forth in rows, seamed, and then you work in the round for the rest of the mitten.
The thumb is worked last, also in the round.
The entire mitten is worked in simple single crochet!
