Design Story and Inspiration for This Easy Crochet Chevron Pattern
As a passionate knit and crochet designer, I’m always on the lookout for inspiration, and a chevron blanket has been on my mind to design for a long time. This easy pattern was born when I wanted to combine the classic chevron stitch with a beautiful ombre yarn. This pattern is a wonderful beginner crochet chevron blanket pattern as it is a super easy two row repeat with just chains and single crochet.
The inspiration for the color palette of this chevron crochet design comes from my favorite shade of teal, which just happens to be one of the colors of Wonderfluff Ombre from We Crochet, which reflects my love for the calming effect of the sea and sky and reminds me of the ocean and beach.
This stitch is soothing and easy to work with, and once you get the hang of the zigzag pattern, this is a wonderful project to take on road trips, to work on while watching tv, or to while away the time chatting with friends. The lovely textured look of this specific chevron stitch complements the ombre effect, resulting in a blanket that has a classic look with a modern twist.

Yarn Options for This Great Classic Blanket Pattern
I chose to use a Bulky Yarn for this easy chevron pattern and the colors of this Wonderfluff Ombre worked out beautifully! This yarn has 284 yards to each 100g skein and I used three skeins almost entirely.
To get a blanket around the size I made use any bulky weight yarn that gets gauge.
But, one of the best things about blankets is that they don’t have to be any certain size! So feel free to use yarn from your stash – one color or many colors, it’s up to you!
This blanket also works out wonderfully as a unique baby blanket crochet pattern with worsted weight yarn, so feel free to go down a hook size or two and use up the worsted weight yarn in your stash. This makes a great lightweight baby blanket.
If you change yarn weight, change the size of your hook as well. Go with a size or two larger than recommended on the ball band for good drape.

Common Questions about Chevron Crochet Blanket Patterns
The number of chains needed to start a chevron blanket is determined by the pattern repeat and the desired width of your blanket. You will usually start with a foundation chain that’s a multiple of the number of stitches in one pattern repeat, plus extra stitches for turning.
The size of a chevron crochet blanket can be customized according to your needs. This blanket measures approximately 34″ x 48″, which makes for a great lap blanket or baby blanket, but you can make anything from a lovey blanket all the way to a king-sized throw.
To calculate a chevron pattern, you first need to know the number of stitches in your pattern repeat. This will help you determine your starting chain length. You also need to consider the height of your stitches and the number of rows you wish to crochet to calculate the size of your finished blanket.
The best yarn for a Chevron Afghan depends on your personal preference and the intended use of the blanket. Worsted weight yarn is a popular choice because of its versatility and warmth. Brands like Lion Brand and Paintbox Yarns offer a variety of color choices, making them ideal for creating stunning chevron patterns. For a softer, more delicate blanket, baby yarn or a high-quality acrylic might be your best bet. See the best yarns for afghans here.

On the first row, what does skc 7mean?
Sorry about that – just a typo! It’s supposed to be sc 7 but I hit a “k” by accident.
