Design Story and Inspiration for this Hat Knitting Pattern

I designed this pattern for the Holiday Maker’s Challenge, which is an eight week challenge designed to get you making for the holidays!

Each week of the challenge I sent out a different pattern that meets these criteria:

1. Works up quickly

2. Uses stash yarn

3. Is small enough to finish anywhere from an hour to a weekend

4. Is something most people would like to receive

So I designed this easy knit scrubby pattern that would be great to give to anyone!

Yarn Options for Our Face Scrubby Knitting Pattern

One of the parts of this challenge I love is using up stash yarn. Like most of you, I have a large yarn stash (just check out any video on my YouTube channel to see my yarn wall haha!). This challenge motivates me to use up some of that yarn!

I will not allow myself to buy new yarn for the challenge, so I always work with what I have. This yarn is Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton, a great DK weight cotton yarn (category #3). I love buying the multicolored cakes and deconstructing them to have coordinating colors for smaller projects.

You can feel free to use any Dk weight yarn you like! Cotton is preferred, of course, but the choice is up to you!

How to Customize This Easy Knitting Pattern

Want your scrubby to be smaller? No problem! Mine worked up pretty big, but I also know from experience that mine tend to tighten up in the washer and dryer, so I’m expecting this one to shrink.

If you want it larger or smaller, just increase or decrease in multiples of 8. If you want a smaller scrubby, I’d just subtract 8 sts. If you want a dishcloth or washcloth, I’d add 16 sts.

The garter stitch border is written into the pattern, so if you add or subtract in multiples of 8 you can just work the pattern as written.

Final Thoughts on Our Knitted Face Scrubby Pattern

This Diagonal Textured Face Scrubby is such a simple pattern – I really hope you enjoy it! It was fun to make and I love the idea of changing the size. You could even do a couple of face scrubbies and a washcloth as a set, just by changing the sizes up a little!

Happy Knitting!
