Wondering what to make for gifts this year? Try making a puff stitch crochet face scrubby or two for a gift set!
Design Story and Inspiration for this Crochet Face Scrubby Pattern
I designed this for the Holiday Maker’s Challenge, which is an eight week challenge designed to get you making for the holidays!
Each week of the challenge I sent out a different pattern that meets these criteria:
1. Works up quickly
2. Uses stash yarn
3. Is small enough to finish anywhere from an hour to a weekend
4. Is something most people would like to receive
So I designed this easy face scrubby pattern that would be great to gift as part of a spa set!
Yarn Options for This Easy Crochet Pattern
Since the challenge is designed to use up stash yarn, that’s exactly what I do when designing my patterns. I do not go out and buy new yarn and I’m determined to use up some of my stash!
For this pattern, you will need a DK weight cotton yarn (category #3). I chose Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton because that’s what I had on hand.
I love this yarn because it comes in multicolored cakes, and you can use it as a cake yarn or deconstruct it and have multiple colors that coordinate perfectly, which is what I did with several skeins. (I also crocheted an entire shawl with it as a cake yarn – you can check that pattern out here.)
So, feel free to use up any cotton yarn in your stash! If your cotton is a worsted weight, then your finished scrubby will be larger, but it can still work. Just make sure to use a larger hook, as the puff stitches would be very difficult with a small hook and thicker yarn.

Make magic ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 6 puff sts in magic ring, join with sl st to first puff st. (6 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, work a puff st in each puff st and ch-1 space, join with sl st to first puff st. (12 sts).
Round 3: Repeat round 2. (24 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1, *(sc, hdc) in next puff st, dc in ch-1 space, 3 dc in next puff st, dc in ch-1 space, (hdc, sc) in next puff st, skip ch-1 space; repeat from * around, join with sl st to first sc.
Finishing
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Block flat. Scrubby has a tendency to curl up if it isn’t blocked, so pin it to a surface, spray with water and allow to dry completely, then it will lie flat.
Final Thoughts on Our Puff Stitch Crochet Face Scrubby Pattern
That’s it! In just four easy rounds you can have a face scrubby ready to go. Be sure to block these to ensure they lie flat. It’s a simple step that makes a big difference!
I hope you enjoyed this free crochet pattern as much as I’ve enjoyed designing it!
Happy Crocheting!
