I know people like to complain about working with faux fur yarn, but can we talk about the benefits for a quick sec? Ok, first of all, it’s super forgiving! Dropped a stitch? I can’t tell. Stitch count is off? If it still fits, then you’re fine! Faux fur yarn is not for fine tooth combing for mistakes. Novelty yarns are supposed to be fun, right?
Also, you will literally never knit something as soft and snuggly with any other yarn. There’s just no comparison for that plush and squishy faux fur yarn. It looks and feels downright luxurious! Spoil yourself with one of these free faux fur yarn knitting patterns or surprise someone else with a quick knit gift and you will see what I mean?
And when I say quick, I mean quick! Most faux fur yarns are on the chunkier side, so these projects are basically going to fly off your knitting needles! That makes them perfect for last-minute gifting, or for knitting items to sell. Plus, as soon as you finish one of these free faux fur yarn knitting patterns, you are sure to want to start another one right away!

Tips for Knitting with Faux Fur Yarn
It’s much easier to knit with faux fur yarn that it is to crochet with it, because the stitches are always on your needles. Once you knit a stitch and move on to the next row, however, you won’t be able to see your stitches in the previous row well. One benefit (as mentioned above!) is that your mistakes are hidden, too!
If you are making an animal out of faux fur yarn, I have found that I like the way garter stitch looks better than Stockinette. You can see the polar bear I knit last year above, and it’s super easy all in garter stitch. One tip for animals, too – it helps to brush the fur after it’s done. It helps even it out.
To join one ball to another, use a sewing needle and thread to stitch the end of one ball to the start of another. Use thread that’s as close to the color of your yarn as possible. This works best on yarns that have a fabric backing, but if you are careful you can do it on most faux fur yarns.
One more tip – leave your yarn tail a bit longer than you are used to. Fur yarn can slip out easily, so you want to make sure you have enough yarn tail to really secure the ends.
