Free Knitting Pattern – Unforgettable One Skein Scarf

Serious question: if you’ve never knit an infinity scarf before then what are you doing with your life? They’re cute, they’re cozy and they’re totally easy too. Plus, you never have to worry about them slipping off your neck or blowing away in the wind (although I’m pretty sure that doesn’t actually happen in real life – only in movies).

Stupid question: how do you knit an infinity scarf? Just kidding, of course there’s no such thing as stupid questions! If you are new to the wonderful world of knitting, don’t worry. You will be delighted to read that the majority of the free infinity scarf knitting patterns we are featuring today are totally beginner friendly!

Some infinity scarves are knit on circular needles in the round and some are knit on straight needles. You can even loom knit a scarf (but that’s a topic for another day).

Trick question: how many infinity scarf knitting patterns is too many? The answer is never enough! Unfortunately, we could only pack 25 into this round-up, so that will have to do! But don’t worry, because we’ve cherry picked the best patterns out there. That means that you don’t have to scroll through pages and pages of mediocre knitting patterns, and you can instead spend more time knitting (or buying more yarn – we don’t judge!).

So, what are you waiting for? Scroll down to see all this knitting goodness for yourself!

Rainy Day Scarf

If you are a beginner knitter who has only done stockinette and garter stitch so far, then it’s time to branch out. The box stitch is a great choice. It’s a straightforward knitting stitch pattern that uses only knit, purl, and slip stitches. You’ll be knitting flat in back and forth rows for this scarf, which most beginners tend to find a bit easier than knitting in the round.

You only need 4-5 grams of each color for this tube style scarf knit in the round.

Misty Rainbow Scarf

It seems like a lot of the free infinity scarf knitting patterns out there are a little on the plain side. Sure, the solid colored ones are easier to style, but I think we can all agree that the colorful ones are more fun! (Especially when you use a color changing yarn so you don’t have a million ends to weave in). This pattern calls for the herringbone stitch.

Woolly Rustic Infinity Scarf

Add a bit of sparkle to a plain scarf with a metal accent piece. Scour your closet or the nearest thrift store for a fun brooch or belt buckle. You can anchor it with a small makeup sponge to hold it in place. The next one of our infinity scarf knitting patterns uses a popular and well-loved stitch pattern called the seed stitch. It’s hard not to love this stitch since it’s an easy one row repeat and it has fantastic texture! Try it out with a wool yarn as recommended and you can learn how to wet splice ends together, so you won’t have to go back later to weave them in!

Neon Stripes Infinity Scarf

Sometimes, simple infinity scarf knitting patterns are the best ones. This is especially true after a long stressful day! What better way to unwind than with a striped scarf knit in stockinette stitch. You don’t even have to purl stitch since this scarf is knit as a tube and then seamed together at the ends.

Cozy Infinity Scarf

If you’re looking to use up a colorful skein of yarn, then you’ll want to keep the stitchwork fairly simple. Of course, sometimes there is such a thing as too simple, especially if you’ve been knitting for a while. You can take it up a notch with this Cozy Infinity Scarf that’s knit flat in twisted rib stitch (alternating knit and purl stitches worked through the back loop).

Budding Infinity Scarf

The next one of our free infinity scarf knitting patterns is a succulent-inspired design. Multiple stitches worked into a single stitch create bud-like nubbins of texture, while knitting 3 together creates a delicate network of lace. The design is knit in the round, so you don’t have to worry about seaming.

Cestari Infinity Scarf

Basketweave in two colors is twice as much fun, because the contrast in colors really highlights the texture of the stitch. If you’ve never tried the basketweave stitch before, I highly recommend you give it a try. It looks tricky but it’s really just knit and purl stitches. The pattern includes tips on making clean color changes in the round.

Urban Lace Infinity Scarf

The Urban Lace Infinity Scarf is worked flat in feather and fan stitch. Don’t be afraid to block this project a little more aggressively than you usually would in order for the bits of lace to really pop. This also helps you stretch a single skein of yarn further so you can create an infinity scarf with enough length to wrap twice.

Blues Infinity Scarf

I love a color changing yarn for infinity scarf knitting patterns, because I feel like you really get to show off the colors. This scarf, while not truly reversible, does still look good from either side of the stitchwork. You’ll be knitting in rows for this one and using just knit and purl stitches. This is a great project for beginner knitters looking to go beyond just stockinette and garter stitch.

Infinitude Scarf

This versatile and unisex design is characterized by both vertical and horizontal ribbing. As the designer puts it, this design really emphasizes the scarf’s “scrunchability”. Choose between two different lengths depending on whether you’d like to be able to wrap it around your neck two times or three.

Adventurous beginner knitters can take their rib stitch knitting skills and upgrade them with the spiral rib stitch. It’s a neat little trick that’s sure to make you feel like you’re finally getting the hang of this knitting thing! Just look at how great it looks in the Out on the Circle Scarfie. The pattern is knit in the round, so there’s no sewing.

New Blooms Infinity Scarf

Usually combining a variegated yarn with a busy stitch pattern is a no-no, but for some reason it’s totally working here. The colorful yarn and the rows of raspberry stitch nubbins combine into a beautiful gardenscape that you can wear around your neck! The pattern is knit flat and it has an easy 4 row repeat.

A Striped Affair Infinity Scarf

The next one of our free infinity scarf knitting patterns calls for the broken rib slip stitch knit in the round. The interesting thing about this pattern is that it uses two different kinds of yarn with vastly different weights – one is aran weight and the other is lace weight. This results in thicker and thinner sections that contrast both in texture and in color.

Designer: Purl Avenue

Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton-Ease 50/50 (Aran Weight #4) and

Patons North America Lace (Lace Weight #0)
