I love giving gift cards because you know that the recipient will be able to pick out something that is just what they like. Everyone appreciates a gift card, but I also really enjoy giving handmade gifts, too!
Making a gift card holder is the best of both worlds! That way, you can give them a small handmade gift (that is super fast to make, too!) and also give them a gift card for something they can pick out themselves.
I especially like to give gift cards to my sons’ teachers. With at least four teachers to make for every year, things get pretty busy around here. The good thing is that I always design something new for each teacher and put those patterns up on the blog to share with you!
This pattern uses leftover worsted weight yarn to whip up a quick gift. It also serves to familiarize you with mitten construction, if you’ve never made any before. I just took my Basic Mittens pattern and adjusted it for this pattern.
If you can make this little guy, you can make mittens!

Roni
Hi, is there other directions missing in round 2 other than work in continuous round? I’m not understanding how I start row 3.
amanda
Hi Roni!
When you work in a continuous round, you just keep single crocheting without joining in the first stitch, just crochet around and around, like a spiral. So to start row 3, do not join with a slip stitch or turn, just sc in the first st. 🙂
Stephanie
In Round 4 it says, “2 sc in first sc, sc 3, sc in next sc, sc to end (22 sts)”. I don’t understand…where it says, “sc 3, sc in next sc”, isn’t that the same thing as single crochet in the next 4 stitches? So is it a typo or is it basically saying to do 2sc in the 1st stitch then sc to the end?
amanda
Hi Stephanie! Looks like there is a missing “2” here. People have made this pattern and no one has pointed this out before! I’ve changed it to read as follows: Round 4: 2 sc in first sc, sc 3, 2 sc in next sc, sc to end (22 sts).
