Design Story and Inspiration for this Simple Crochet Dishcloth Pattern
In the warmer months, I really love small, quick projects. I can still practice new stitches and improve my craft without having the issue of crochet fabric hanging out in my lap (making me hot!). The small projects are also so portable – great for when you are on the go more often in the warmer months!
Of course, you can make a crochet washcloth or dishcloth any time of year, but I love to make mine in these months and then use them all year long.
For this crochet dishcloth pattern, I wanted to use a beginner-friendly textured stitch that I have recently fallen in love with. It’s a simple variation of single crochet – you work a sc2tog decrease and then a ch-1. Since you work into the chain spaces, there are no holes in this project and the texture works perfectly for picking up crumbs, scrubbing and wiping counters (and also makes a great crochet washcloth pattern if you like, too!).

Yarn Options for This Free Crochet Dishcloth Pattern
I used a worsted weight cotton yarn for this project, Dishie from We Crochet. It was my first time using this yarn and I absolutely love it. I definitely plan on ordering more in lots of colors!
You can use any worsted weight cotton yarn, it doesn’t really matter if it gets gauge. That’s one of the best things about crochet dishcloths – gauge is not important and they are so functional!
If you find yourself with some DK weight cotton yarn (as I love to use for many projects), then simply make a longer chain in any even number and you can work the stitch pattern as written.
