Design Story and Inspiration for the Men’s Mitten Crochet Pattern
I really want to make things for my hubby but he really isn’t into knitwear or crocheted things. Anyone else in that boat? That’s why I really hadn’t done many men’s things except for the Slip Stitch Hat (knit) for him.
I can do all kinds of boy’s items and my little guys will actually wear them, but the hubs? Not so much. I decided I was going to start making for him and see if I could change his mind. 🙂
Hopefully once it gets cold enough these mittens will be put to good use. We don’t get a lot of really cold weather that often here in TN, but when we do we are sure to bundle up because we aren’t used to it. We had a few winters where it got down to negative wind chills and they called school off just for the cold!
Yarn Options for This Easy Men’s Mitten Pattern
I’m really happy with how these mittens turned out. They are made with bulky yarn so they were a very quick project. I used Patons Classic Wool Roving and really enjoyed it. My hubs really only likes black and gray so that was an easy decision on the color (even though they look more brown in the pic below!).
I modified my pattern for the women’s Basic Mittens (which were crocheted in worsted weight yarn) to create a larger mitten that was suitable for a man’s hand. There is also a complete video tutorial, so if you’ve never made mittens before or are afraid to go for it – don’t be!! I’ll guide you every step of the way. 🙂
Feel free to use whatever bulky weight yarn (category #5) that can get the same gauge. Gauge is important because it needs to fit, but these also have a bit of give to them.
