Looking for a handmade item to make for that person that’s just hard to make for?? Why not a crochet hat ornament for their tree!
Design Story and Inspiration for This Easy Crochet Ornament
I designed this pattern for the Holiday Maker’s Challenge, which is an eight week challenge designed to get you making for the holidays!
Each week of the challenge I sent out a different pattern that meets these criteria:
1. Works up quickly
2. Uses stash yarn
3. Is small enough to finish anywhere from an hour to a weekend
4. Is something most people would like to receive
So I designed this crochet ornament pattern that would be great to give to anyone! One of my favorite ornaments on our tree is a crochet bell that my aunt made for me. She passed away several years ago and I always think of her with fond memories when I see her ornament.
Yarn Options for This Tiny Crochet Hat
I chose fingering weight yarn with a tiny hook for this ornament, and you can see from the photo that it turned out just right for an ornament.
However, don’t feel like you have to stick to fingering weight yarn! I know a lot of crocheters don’t have fingering weight lying around, and that’s okay!
If you want to use other yarn, just adjust your hook size. If you aren’t sure about hook size, check the label on your yarn for a recommendation.
If your hat turns out larger than you would like on the tree, just use it as an embellishment on a gift. Small crochet hats or mittens look amazing as present decorations!
