If you’re new to the world of faux fur yarn then you might be wondering just how to crochet with faux fur yarn? I’m not going to lie, it can be a little tricky and it definitely takes some getting used to. Luckily, many of the patterns we’re featuring today include helpful tips and tricks for working with faux fur yarn. There are written instructions, helpful videos, and photo-tutorials too, so whatever your learning style, we’ve got you covered!
One other question you may have is, what can you crochet with faux fur yarn? I was so surprised to find out just how versatile faux fur yarn is when I curated this list! We have an amazing variety of free faux fur yarn crochet patterns for you today – everything from faux fur amigurumi patterns, to faux fur home decor patterns, to faux fur crochet fashion, and more!
One more thing that I was so happy to hear, is that you can actually make your own faux fur pom poms using faux fur yarn! Yep, you can make all those super cute crochet projects you’ve been eyeing that have faux fur pom poms without paying an arm and a leg just for the pom pom. I see a lot of fabulous crochet projects with faux fur pom poms in your future! This post includes two different ways to make them, so keep your eyes peeled for those great tutorials.
But do you want to know my absolute favorite thing about these free faux fur yarn crochet patterns? Many of them are super fast to make! Faux fur yarn tends to be on the thicker side anyway, and many patterns call for a larger crochet hook to make seeing your stitches easier. It’s an absolute win-win that also leads to quicker crochet projects that are perfect for last minute gifting! (Or for when your list of ongoing crochet projects is a mile long like mine haha) So what are you waiting for? Scroll down and prepare to be inspired!

Tips for Crocheting with Faux Fur Yarn
I really love working with faux fur, but it’s not for the faint of heart. With knitting, the stitches are on the needles and it’s easy to see. With crochet, I have found with most all faux fur yarns that I have to “feel” the stitches.
The good thing is that if you work into one loop of a stitch or work properly into a stitch, the yarn is very forgiving and the fur hides that fact. This happens to me quite a bit as I am checking to see where my hook glides easily into a stitch, and sometimes it’s only one loop and I go with it. It’s not perfect, but it works!
With the larger faux fur yarns I have found it easy to find the stitches with my fingers.
Use stitch markers if you are working in the round, and count, count, count! Again, the fur yarn is very forgiving, so there have been times when I have been a stitch short and simply worked 2 sitches into the last stitch to get the right count – and you can’t tell at all. So please don’t feel like you have to be a perfect crocheter to make a project like these!
