Free Pattern: Unforgettable Hat from Designing Crochet by Amanda Saladin

Buy the ad-free PDF of this pattern in my shop here!

Almost exactly three years ago I created the Unforgettable One-Skein Scarf, which has been one of the most popular patterns on this site, with over 90 projects to date on Ravelry and growing.  Over the summer I created a knit version and  I’ve had requests for a hat to go with the scarf and finally got around to creating the Unforgettable Hat.  This hat uses the same yarn and stitch pattern to make a quick and easy project you can finish in no time.  Makes a great gift or make it for yourself to match your scarf. 🙂

What You’ll Need:

Yarn: Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable, 1 Skein Petunia

Hook: I (5.5mm) Hook

Circumference: 21″
Length: 7 3/4″

Gauge: 6 V-Sts and 9 rows = 4″

Notes:
1. Ch 4 at beginning of row counts as dc, ch-1
2. Ch 3 at beginning of row counts as dc
3. Work V-St in ch-1 space of previous V-St
4. For rounds 2-16 begin each round by slip stitching into first ch-1 space and join each round with a slip st in 3rd ch of turning ch.

Special Stitches:
V-St: (dc, ch 1, dc) in same stitch or space

Hi! For this pattern, a V-stitch is a (dc, ch 1, dc) in the same stitch. It makes a shape like the letter V.

I can’t stop making this pattern! I have made 3 hats so far and I started 5 days ago. I started another one last night. It is fast, easy to read, and easy to follow. I am going to try to increase the size because it is too small for my huge noggin. Thank you for the pattern.

You are so welcome! Glad you like the pattern – you can easily do another round following the same pattern for increasing. This is probably one of the quickest hats I have ever made and I’m so happy you are finding it easy and quick, too! 🙂

    What is fpdc and bpdc?
    Thank you.

      Hi Carrie!

Fpdc is a front post double crochet and bpdc means back post double crochet. If you’re not sure how to do these, I have some tutorial videos at this link.

How can I adjust this for a toddler?

    • amanda

      May 1, 2019 at 8:20 pm

This hat is made from the top down so it could easily be adjusted for a toddler. Work the hat’s crown until it is the diameter you want (usually 5″ for a toddler) and then work the body of the hat.

The link for the scarf either does not go anywhere OR it is going to a very weird site for shopping, but I don’t know what for.. I wanted to tell you about it so I came back to this site to see if it went to the weird site, but then it didn’t go to any site.

Hi! I made your Unforgettable Scarf and was intending on making this but I am struggling understanding the pattern. Do you have any tutorial video on this one? I looked at your YouTube and I didn’t see it but wanted to check.
    Thank you!

I’m sorry I’ve never made a video for this hat. It’s the same v-stitch pattern but you are working it in the round.

        Hi Amanda,
If I start it off with a magic circle instead, do you know how many stitches would equal your pattern?
        Thank you,
        Laura

If I were starting with a magic circle I would do the 4 sc from round 1 in the circle instead of the second ch and continue the pattern from there as written. 🙂
