Make this lovely newborn baby blanket using just one skein of yarn. Welcoming a little one into the world is a moment filled with joy and anticipation.
What better way to express your love than by crafting a cozy and charming baby blanket with your own hands? There’s something truly enchanting about creating a handmade blanket for a newborn. A cherished gift for someone special.
Do you need a quick baby shower gift?
This pattern uses simple crochet stitches and works up quickly. The size, 26 X 26 inches, makes it perfect for draping over a newborn in a bassinette or throwing over the car seat or stroller. When the child is older, it will make a great lovey blanket. However, the size is completely customizable.
Use the single crochet, the double crochet stitch, and chain stitches to create this perfect gift for the mom-to-be.
I love making baby blankets because they are easy to customize with any yarn color you wish, plus, they are a small project.
Yarn for this Crochet Pattern
With just one skein of yarn this is a quick make. You can use any type of yarn you want, as long as it’s a medium weight for this pattern. I love using high quality acrylic yarn or a 100% cotton yarn for baby blankets.
Today, I used a Caron Cotton Cakes yarn that changes colors throughout the skein. However, this blanket would be beautiful in natural cream or any color combination you choose.
Boxed Block Stitch Pattern
The pattern is reversible using the Boxed Block Stitch in the center with a border of single crochet rows and double crochet rows. It’s perfect for a confident beginner. We have a full tutorial with photos and links to videos for both right hand and left hand crocheters of this boxed block stitch.
With the yarn used, it is lightweight and great for summertime or as an extra layer in the winter. This yarn is washable and dryable making it great for babies.
