Design Story and Inspiration for This Fun Twisted Headband
I’ve been wanting to design a twisted headband for the longest time โ there’s just something about that little center twist that makes a headband look so polished and intentional. Every time I’d see one, I’d think I need to make that. So when I finally sat down to do it, I knew I didn’t want to just design a basic twisted headband. I wanted it to feel like me.
That’s where my current favorite stitch came in. I’ve been absolutely obsessed with the texture it creates, and I had a feeling it would pair beautifully with the twisted silhouette โ and honestly? It exceeded my expectations. The stitch gives the headband this gorgeous, dimensional look that catches the light in the best way, especially in a variegated yarn. I’m so proud of how this one turned out, and I can’t wait for you to make it your own!
Yarn Options for a Twisted Crochet Headband
For this headband, I used a hand-painted DK weight cotton yarn, and let me tell you โ it is perfect for a project like this. The variegated colorways in hand-painted yarn just come alive in the stitch pattern, and because this headband uses so little yarn, it’s a wonderful single skein project. If you’ve been hoarding a special skein and waiting for the right pattern to show it off, this is it!
That said, any DK weight yarn will work beautifully here. A solid or semi-solid would give the texture even more definition if that’s the look you’re going for, and a cozy wool or wool blend would make this extra warm for the colder months. The most important thing is sticking to DK weight so your sizing stays consistent โ but beyond that, this is a great pattern to dig into your stash and have a little fun with!
