Need an easy baby shower gift? The Quick Crochet Baby Blanket works up in no time and makes a wonderful gift.
I really love making crochet baby blankets. It’s so fun to try out new stitches, textures and yarns and to have something that I know a new mom or dad will love to wrap their little bundle in.
Design Story and Inspiration for the Quick Crochet Baby Blanket
I try my best to make a lot of my patterns suitable for those who haven’t crocheted for a long time, but also make them something that you would be proud to give as a gift.
The Duchess Baby Blanket is the most popular pattern on my site, and it’s an easy stitch for the body with a lacy border that is a tiny bit more complicated.
For this blanket, I wanted a super simple border that would give it a nice finished look but was less complicated than the border on the Duchess Blanket.
About the Yarn
One of my favorite blanket yarns is Red Heart Super Saver Ombre, and I’ve used it for several blankets.
The color changes are just gorgeous and the yarn is super easy to care for, which is a huge plus in my book when you are using it for a baby. They are messy (I’ve had four!).
Usually I choose a color way that is variations of the same color (like teal or purple), but this one uses different shades of blue and worked up beautifully.
Any shade of this yarn would make an excellent blanket. This yarn is amazingly affordable and worth a try!
If you’d like to choose another yarn, check out my post of best yarns for baby blankets.

Love this blanket but going to make it in purple.

Love these patterns. But it would help if you had the stitch count plus turn for larger sizes. What is the stitch pattern called for the elegant and easy ombre blankets? Thank you for providing this information.
amanda
The Elegant Ombre Baby Blanket uses a variation on the bean stitch, and the Easy Ombre Baby Blanket uses a V-stitch pattern.

I just made a copy of this pattern. I belong to a group who stitch blankets and caps for the babies at a local hospital. This pattern will be perfect for that purpose.
amanda
That sounds wonderful!! I hope you enjoy the pattern ๐
Melody Filice
I would like to make this blanket bigger. Can you please tell me the multiples?
amanda
Hi Melody, this stitch pattern is in multiples of 3. Since there is a 3 stitch turning chain, technically you would do multiples of 3 for your width and then add 3 more for the first turning ch.
Toni
Thank you for sharing this pattern. I would like to enlarge it to make an afghan. Can you tell me the chain multiple to enlarge it please?
amanda
Hi Toni! This stitch pattern is in any multiple of 3. ๐

Iโm looking for an old baby blanket that uses two threads and different colors in sort of a rainbow pattern. Does anyone have a pattern like this. I sure would appreciate it. Iโm having my first grand baby from my only child.

Excited to try this blanket for a gift. Quick question: on row 3, after chain 3, do you start dc in that same first stitch at base of the chain? On Row 2 you specifically said 2dc into first stitch but not for Row 3 so I am just checking. thank you.
amanda
Hi Beth! If a stitch counts as a dc you will always skip the very first stitch because the turning chain takes the place of the stitch. I know that can be a bit confusing. ๐

Beautiful stitch, can’t wait to try it.
Thank you!

Iโm having an issue with shrinking rows, every time I do the double crochet row I find it getting shorter by about 10 each turn. Should I be picking up into the single/double crochet row
amanda
Do you have the same number of sts at the end of the row? Make sure you are working into the turning chain as well, but I’m not sure why your rows would be off by that many sts.
Priscilla
I think I figured it out! When I first read the pattern I was doing skipping two stitches and doing the single crochet in one stitch, and the 2 double crochet in the next stitch. But in rereading it looks like the sc, and 2 dc are in the same stitch.
amanda
Awesome!! Glad you figured out where the stitches were running off to ๐

Cindy
Hi! I made the duchess baby blanket and love the pattern! Do you have this same pattern to make a baby hat and sweater? Iโd love to make the complete set for my niece. Thanks so much!

Hi Cindy! I do have patterns for baby hats and sweaters, but they don’t use the same stitch. ๐ I’m so glad you enjoyed the pattern!
