Design Story and Inspiration for This Crochet Square

I created this easy square while riding in the back of my van with my four boys. My parents were driving us to Florida for a few days while the hubs was working, and I was squeezed in the back and needed a small, quick project.

I love the way this square worked up and I am turning them into some great projects for the blog! You can use these for handbags, slippers, cardigans, blankets and so much more.

Yarn Options for Our Crochet Motif

You can use any size yarn you like for this motif, but I chose Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton because that was what was in my stash. I’m planning on turning these into a fun project that’s perfect for cotton yarn, so this DK weight cotton was perfect.

I also love that this was a self-striping cake yarn, so I could deconstruct it and have colors that matched perfectly. I love this combo of gray, cream and pink. (You can see this yarn in my easy shawl design as well as my crochet water bottle holder).

Feel free to use any yarn you like with an appropriate-sized hook. If unsure about hook size, just check the recommendation on your yarn label.

Final Thoughts on This Easy Square Motif

I can’t wait to share with you the project I’m working on with these squares!! It’s a fun make, so go ahead and start making these squares in lots of different colors, including some with three colors (work rounds 1 and 2 in different colors, then change colors again and work rounds 3-4). See the video if you want to check out a three color square!

I’ll see you soon with our project make with this small crochet square motif!

Happy Crocheting!
