Design Story and Inspiration for this Crochet Soap Sock
I designed this pattern for the Holiday Maker’s Challenge – an annual event where we work together to make as many patterns as possible before Christmas.
All patterns in this challenge have to meet the following criteria:
- Must be easy enough for an advanced beginner
- Must use stash yarn
- Must be quick enough to finish in a weekend
- Must be well-received by gift recipients
This small gift would be perfect for a spa-themed gift with some amazing spa products.
Yarn Options for your Soap Saver
It’s best to make these little bath projects with cotton yarn. The yarn I chose was Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton in Nutmeg Nibbles (perfect color name for the holidays, don’t you think?). This is a DK weight yarn that comes in a multicolor cake.
You can substitute any cotton yarn that gets gauge. For this use, you really should stick with a cotton yarn as it will be in a bathtub and the cotton holds up well while not usually growing any mold or mildew.

How to Use the Textured Crochet Soap Saver
Using a soap holder/soap sock is super easy! All you do is put bar soap (can be a whole soap bar or just scraps!) into the bag and pull the drawstring tight.
Every time you are done, hang the bag to dry. You don’t want to leave it in the soap dish because the bottom will not get a chance to dry out and could mold.
