Design Story and Inspiration for this Soap Saver
We end up with a lot of small pieces of soap here, and also bars that get lost in the bathtub with the kiddos and wear away… so I wanted to find something that would help keep our soap going as long as possible.
Enter the Crochet Soap Saver! This little drawstring soap sock will give you a place to put all your tiny pieces of soap and keep it from getting lost in bath water. You can also easily hang it in the shower.
These little guys are also great additions to your line up for craft fairs as they are easy to crochet and make great gifts.

What is the Best Yarn for Soap Savers?
The best yarn to use for a soap sack is a cotton or cotton blend. These yarns will hold up well to the wear and tear and they can handle getting wet repeatedly and hung up to dry.
Some people like to use acrylic yarn for a crochet soap saver pattern, and this would work as well as acrylic holds up well to repeated washings, but overall cotton is the best choice.
You will want to use a thinner weight yarn, worsted or thinner, to make your soap saver bag so it will dry better. Thicker yarns will hold onto the moisture more and possibly mold or mildew.

How to Use a Crochet Soap Saver
Using a soap holder is super easy! All you do is put bar soap (can be a whole soap bar or just scraps!) into the bag and pull the drawstring tight.
Every time you are done, hang the bag to dry. You don’t want to leave it in the soap dish because the bottom will not get a chance to dry out and could mold.
Common Questions about Crochet Soap Savers
A soap saver is a small pouch that holds soap in the bath or shower. It goes by many other names including a soap holder, soap bag, soap pouch, and can also be a soap scrubby if made with different yarn.
Yes!! They really do prolong the life of a bar of soap, not to mention they help use up the leftovers, as we’ve discussed above. It doesn’t take much yarn or time to crochet a soap saver – so give one a try and see for yourself!
Very easily! You simply insert the soap bar (or pieces) that you want to use and close up the bag. Then, simply wet and use the gentle texture of the crochet stitches to exfoliate the skin.
They can be much more sanitary than a soap dish! When you leave your bar of soap on a flat surface like a soap dish, it never gets a chance to dry out. When you hang your crochet soap bag, it dries out evenly for less chance of mold or mildew. They are also more sanitary than a plastic loofah.
It’s just like it sounds! The entire purpose of a crochet soap bag is to save your soap! It helps it last longer. Plus it just feels good to wash your back with one of these.

I am totally confused. After the mbs rounds you say go back to Round 2, but that takes you from 26sts to 18. What do I do with the other 8 sts or am I reading it incorrectly?
amanda
Not sure what happened there – you should repeat the last round, which would be round 8 so you are working even in the mbs.
