Design Story and Inspiration for the Moss Stitch Chevron Blanket

One of my absolute favorite crochet stitches is the crochet moss stitch. I’ve used it in a lot of projects including some corner to corner projects and it never disappoints! (You can see my corner to corner moss stitch baby blanket pattern here!)

So when I found out you could work the moss stitch in a chevron pattern, I was sold! I found this amazing chevron pattern in several tutorials, so I’m not sure who came up with the idea first, but I’m so glad someone did, because this stitch is truly stunning.

I had a few skeins of this Baby Blanket Dappled yarn waiting to be made into a blanket, and this stitch pattern was a perfect combo! I hope you love it as much as I do!

Yarn Options for a Moss Stitch Chevron Blanket

I chose a blanket yarn because of how quickly it works up, and also because blankets made from this yarn are incredibly warm and comfy.

Most of us have some blanket yarn in our stashes, so find some blanket yarn or other super bulky (category #6) yarn and get crocheting! 😀

Moss Stitch Chevron Notes

I have it listed next to the approximate finished sizes, but I wanted to let you know that the gauge for this pattern does not exactly equal finished size due to the up and down nature of the stitch itself. This stitch pattern also has a very large stitch multiple (19 +18!) so it’s hard to get an exact size.

So please note that the finished sizes are approximate, and as close as possible due to the nature of the stitch and large stitch multiple.

What You’ll Need

Yarn: Bernat Baby Blanket Dappled (Polyester, 220yds/300g) in Aquamarine (See chart below for number of skeins) 

Hook: US Size K (6.50mm)

Notions: Yarn needle, scissors

Gauge: 12 sts and 8 rows = 4″ in single crochet

Pattern Notes

The body of the blanket is created using single crochets and chains to make chain-spaces.  After the blanket body is worked, we will come back and use surface slip-stitch through the chain spaces to create the cables.

That’s it! A simple one row repeat creates this gorgeous blanket. Use a slight color-changing yarn or even a stripe pattern and it is simply stunning!
