Design Story and Inspiration for the Bar Stitch Blanket
I absolutely love gradient and ombre yarns. One of the things I think shows off their colors best is blankets, so when I checked my stash and found some skeins of this amazing ombre yarn, I set out to design a new blanket pattern!
I chose the bar stitch for it’s gorgeous vertical lines made with front post double crochet. The rest is single crochet and it is sooo easy. Makes a nice project to work on while you are watching tv or riding in the car (not driving!).
Once you get the pattern established, it’s super easy to see where you should use a front post double crochet or a single crochet… and all wrong side rows are simply single crochet.

Yarn Options for this Ombre Throw
This yarn is We Crochet Wonderfluff Ombre, which is a fantasticly cozy, squishy yarn. And it is SO warm! I loved having this in my lap as I crocheted it – especially when I got to the border!
You can use any bulky (category #5) yarn you like, but be aware that this yarn felt a bit more similar to an aran or heavy worsted, which is only a category #4 and why I used a size J hook. Of course, with blankets it’s fine to use another weight of yarn, it just affects the size.
So feel free to grab any yarn in your stash and work up a bunch of blankets.
