Design Story and Inspiration for this Easy Six Petal Flower
I love playing around with textures and interesting details to create something new, and that’s what I did with this easy crochet flower applique!
This has many different uses and is pretty beginner-friendly. The trickiest part is the puff stitches that make up the center of the flower, but if you watch the video tutorial I show you slowly, step-by-step how to complete the puff stitches. (It’s easier than you think!)
Yarn Options for This Easy Crochet Flower
One of the best things about easy patterns like this is that you can use any yarn and hook you wish! To get it to lie flat, check the ball band of the yarn you want to use and go with the recommended hook size.
I made mine with Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton, which is a DK weight yarn (category #3) and a size 7 (4.5mm) hook. I have quite a bit of this yarn left over from another project, so I broke it down into the different colors and I’m using it for lots of different projects, like this mini succulent keychain.
So, choose any weight of yarn you want and grab an appropriate hook and you can make one of these in about 15 minutes!
Crochet Flower Pattern Details
This pattern begins with the magic ring to close up the center and have a nice smooth flower. Then, puff stitches are worked into the ring.
The rest of the flower is created with chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet stitches for the petals.
How to Customize This Easy Pattern
I used three colors for one of the samples in the pictures, but for the video I chose a single color. It’s fun to play around with different color combinations to see how they turn out!
So, choose one to three colors for your flower, or you could make each petal a different color – it’s really up to you!
