Free Crochet Pattern - Easter Bunny Gift Bag

Easter is almost here!!  We love to celebrate Easter at our house so I created this Easter Bunny Gift Bag to hold treats for the kiddos.  You can see from the photo that this bag holds several regular sized plastic Easter eggs or it can hold quite a bit of candy or other items.

What You’ll Need

Yarn: Red Heart Baby Hugs Medium (100% Acrylic; 247 yards [225 meters]/127 grams): #4724 Pinkie (MC), 1 ball; #4001 Frosting (CC), 1 ball

Hooks: US size H/8 (5.0 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle; two 12” white pipe cleaners/chenille stems; two 12mm safety eyes; one 18mm safety nose; black scrap yarn

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Approximately 8 ½” wide x 12 ½” tall including ears

Gauge: 19 sts and 16 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Stitch Pattern after blocking

Free Crochet Pattern - Easter Bunny Gift Bag

Pattern

Back

With MC, ch 41.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, sk next ch, sc in next ch; rep from * to last ch, sc in last ch, turn – 40 sts.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, sk next sc, sc in ch-1 sp; rep from * to last st, sc in last sc.

Rows 3-30: Rep Row 2.

Ears

First Ear

Row 1: Sl st in first sc, ch 1, sc in first sc and first ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * twice more, turn – 8 sts.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc and first ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * twice more, turn.

Rows 3-17: Rep Row 2.

Row 18: Ch 1, sc2tog in sc and ch-1 sp, *ch 1, sk next sc, sc in ch-1 sp; rep from * once more, sc2tog, turn – 6 sts.

Row 19: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, turn – 4 sts.

Row 20: Ch 1, sc2tog twice – 2 sts.

Fasten off.

Second Ear

Sk 22 sts, join MC in next st and rep Rows 1-20 for First Ear.

Front

Work same as Back.

Change to CC and work Ears instructions same as for Back.

Finishing

Block.

Sew sides and bottom, leaving top and ears unsewn.

Ear Edging

First Ear

Holding front and back ear together, join MC at outer edge of ear, working through both front and back. Bend pipe cleaner/chenille stem to match shape of ear and hold at outer edge in between front and back ear. Sc evenly around ear, making sure to catch pipe cleaner/chenille stem in between. Fasten off.

Repeat for Second Ear.

Face

Follow package directions to attach safety eyes and nose.

Use black embroidery thread to sew mouth.

Cut a yard of CC and weave it through top layer of body (directly below ears). Pull tight to close.
