Design Story and Inspiration for the Easy Velvet Headband
I designed this easy knitting pattern as part of the Holiday Maker’s Challenge – an 8 week challenge where we work together to create as many gifts as possible before Christmas. This pattern was created for week 6 and I love the way it turned out!
Gifts for this challenge had to fit the following criteria:
- They must be easy enough for an advanced beginner
- They must use stash yarn
- They must be quick to make
- They must be an item that is well-received by recipients
If a pattern ticks off all the boxes on that list – it’s a GO!
Want to join the challenge? It’s open every year from mid-October until Christmas!
Yarn Options for a Velvet Headband
For this design to be as cozy and comfy as possible, it’s best to use a velvet yarn. You do have several options for these now!
I choose Bernat Velvet, which is a bulky (category #5) yarn, so it works up nice and thick. I picked mine up at my local JoAnn store with a coupon so it was very inexpensive – and I have a ton of the skein left over for other projects.
You can also use one of these velvet yarns:
Lion Brand Vel-Luxe
Premier Yarns Retro Velvet
Big Twist Velour
If you don’t want to use a velvet yarn, you can totally go with another bulky yarn that gets gauge.
