Design Story and Inspiration for This Fun Crochet Beanie
Do you ever find yourself in love with a certain stitch and making lots of items with the same stitch? That happens to me, and lately I’ve fallen in love with the feather stitch.
This stitch is so fun and gives amazing texture! I paired it with an easy half double crochet brim, and this project works up super quickly (I designed the orange version for my youngest son’s teacher and made it in less than 4 hours!).
If you’re not sure about the feather stitch, don’t worry, there is a complete video tutorial to walk you through each step. Once you get the hang of the feather stitch, it’s a fun and enjoyable stitch, and you might find yourself making several projects with this stitch.
I’ve designed a few things using the feather stitch, and my next project was definitely a hat! So I set out to design one. It took a few tries to get the decreases just right, but it was totally worth it. I can’t wait to gift this hat!
UPDATE: This hat pattern has been so popular that it is now sized from preemie through adult large!
Yarn Options for This Textured Crochet Hat
I created this pattern using Lion Brand Heartland yarn, which is a worsted weight (category #4). I love the subtle shade variations of Heartland and have used it for several projects including a pocket shawl, kid’s sweater and this fun textured beanie.
Feel free to use any worsted weight yarn that you like for this pattern, just double check that it gets the same gauge. Do I hear any stashes getting busted?

Fun in the Snow!
Here are a couple of pictures of the Feather Stitch Crochet Beanie in action when it snowed here in Middle TN! These are my two youngest.
Final Thoughts on the Feather Stitch Beanie
I hope you’ve enjoyed this fun crochet beanie pattern! I sure enjoyed designing it, and I hope the teacher I made it for loves it! She’s a big University of Tennessee fan (we live in TN and she went to college there), so that’s why I chose orange with a big white pom on top!
Happy Crocheting!
