A friend recently asked me if I had seen the little hats with two pom poms on top. “Of course!” I said, “I can make you one!” and so of course I had to come up with my own pattern instead of just following one. She has two boys and a little girl who is the same age as my third son so he got to try it on for me while I was working on it to make sure it was the right size. With four little boys and no girls to make for I really enjoy making girlie things sometimes!
This hat is very simple K2P2 rib with Stockinette knitted on double pointed needles. I used 4 needles but it’s perfectly fine to use 5 if you like – I don’t think it really makes a difference with this pattern. I really enjoyed using the Big Twist Chunky yarn. I bought this skein months ago at my local Joann and finally have a project I wanted to use it for!! I’m really trying to not buy yarn just because I like it. Anyone else do that?? I’m trying to only buy yarn if I have a specific project in mind, but it’s hard when there are so many pretty yarns out there!!

ALL SIZES
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw tail through remaining sts and pull gently to close hole.
Make 2 pom poms with either 3 fingers (I used this tutorial with hot glue for poms that won’t fall apart!) or a medium pom pom maker. Attach as shown in photo and weave in ends.
That’s it! This is really a simple pattern but it turns out really cute. You could put a leather tag on it for a trendy touch. 🙂
Hope you enjoy!
Happy knitting!
Amanda
Thank you for this cute pattern!
Could I make this with straight needles?
I have never knitted with double pointed needles.
