Free Crochet Pattern - Valentine Ear Flap Hat

I just love ear flap hats.  There is something about them that is so gosh darn cute – especially on the little ones!  I have really wanted to make another earflap hat ever since I designed the Toddler Earflap Hat years ago.  There are just too many things on my to-make list!  Anyone else that way??  This year I decided I would make a Valentine’s Day-themed earflap hat.  I’m pretty happy with how this turned out and really always enjoy using the Lion Brand Heartland yarn.  This red is one of my new favorites!!

Some years here the temperature doesn’t even get low enough to need hats, but this year it’s been pretty chilly – we even had snow a few weeks ago!  That may not be big to a lot of you, but it’s a pretty big deal here in the South.  We were out of school for over a week!  While we were off I decided to make some more hats for my boys and I’m working on some mittens for them, too, just in case it gets really cold again.  I’m secretly hoping for more snow soon (I am a teacher so I love snow days!!).

Hi! I love this hat pattern. I am trying to make this hat for my toddler but I seem to be stuck on the ear flaps. Can you provide me with a little bit of clarity please. After I ch 1, am I sc 14 into the last row that I worked evenly OR am I sc 14 in the chain (like in row 1 for the beginning of the hat)? I have started and restarted but I seem to be missing something. Please help!

    Thanks!

Hi Mahnie! You crochet the sts into the last row that you worked evenly. Just work across 14 sts of the last row and turn, then continue the ear flap directions on those 14 sts. 🙂

I need help with how to make the second Earflap

Hi! The second ear flap is worked just like the first. Skip nine stitches between the ear flaps (this will be the back – there will be more stitches between them for the front), join the yarn and work the second ear flap exactly the same as the first. 🙂
