Create an infinity scarf with a windowpane design with this free pattern for the Elements Cowl. This cowl is created in the round with no seam.

Design Story and Inspiration for the Elements Cowl

With fall right around the corner I decided to start creating some new scarf and cowl patterns to wear with the cooler weather.  I have loved this yarn since the first time I used it and decided it would make a great infinity scarf/cowl pattern.  Using simple double crochet and chains I whipped up this scarf in no time flat!

We just finally started getting fall weather and I am totally excited to start wearing my boots and scarves!!

About the Yarn

This project uses only 2 skeins of Berroco Elements. Since these are small skeins I imagine only one 3.5 oz skein would probably make this!

Sadly, the Elements has been discontinued by Berroco.  You can check the recommended substitutions by heading over to this YarnSub page.

Pattern Details

This cowl is worked in the round using only double crochet and chains.  There is a chart below (one of the first ones I ever made!) that shows you how the stitches stack on each other.

For you visual crocheters, I have included this chart.  Please keep in mind this does not include the chains at the beginning of each row.  This is simply the pattern repeat to give you a better idea how the double crochets stack.  Rows 9-12 should look like rows 1-4.  Hope this helps!

I had an error on row 5. I checked it after I read your comment and fixed it. Should work now. Sorry about that!

Neither is mine. I was having to actually pencil out the stitches to try to figure it out. The last stitch of the first set *4x is a dc, then the next instruction says 8 dc, which ends up to be 9 dc, so why not just say so. I am having a hard time working this one up for a quick project and beginner and I am not a beginner. Mine is also nowhere the size it says in the pattern, much smaller. Must be my yarn, hook is the right size. I am running out of time. The new instruction with the visual reader thing is great and I have already pretty much done my own to simplify things. May keep working on this, maybe not. I need two in just a few days.

I find/found nothing wrong with your written pattern or your chart. All is easy to read and understandable. I made a cowl for my granddaughter In no time at all. Thank you for the pattern.

So glad to hear you were able to make this without a problem. I saw that my row 5 might not be clear enough and changed it when I added the chart.
