Design Story and Inspiration for This Knit Ornament Pattern
The Holiday Maker’s Challenge is an annual event with fun, free downloadable patterns. All patterns for the challenge must meet the following criteria to qualify:
Must be easy enough for an advanced beginner.
Must use small amounts of yarn (2 skeins or less), preferably stash yarn.
Must be worked up quickly so we can make as many gifts as possible before December 25.
So this pattern definitely fits the bill. I wanted something easy enough for a true beginner who only knows the knit stitch, but still nice enough to be gift-worthy.
If you aren’t a beginner and you want more challenge, why not try knitting the wreath in a textured stitch pattern? Some fun bobbles or seed stitch would look great!
Yarn Options for Our Easy Wreath Pattern
I used a worsted weight yarn for this pattern (weight category #4). The yarn I had in my stash was Premier Just Worsted from the Dollar Tree! Given that this pattern uses so little yarn, you could make many of these ornaments from one skein.
Feel free to substitute any worsted weight yarn you have in your stash – and it definitely doesn’t only have to be green! This would look great in any color, so use your imagination and have fun.

Easy Knit Wreath Ornament
What You’ll Need
Yarn: Worsted weight yarn of choice (category #4)
Needles: US Size 8 (5.00mm)
Notions: Yarn needle/Tapestry needle, 3.75โ wooden teething ring, ribbon or contrasting color yarn for bow, small wooden gift tag (optional – I found mine at Wal Mart and have also seen these at Hobby Lobby)
Finished Size: 3.75″ circumference to fit ring
PATTERN
Cast on 12 sts using the knitted cast on.
Work in garter stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 3.5″ from beginning (it will stretch to fit ring).
Finishing
Use mattress stitch to seam ends together. Place ring inside and sew up the inside seam, covering the wooden ring completely.
Tie wooden gift tag to wreath ornament as seen in photos. Use rest of yarn/ribbon to wrap around and tie in bow on top to complete ornament.
To hang on the tree, you can use a wire hook or make a loop with yarn or ribbon.
