Design Story and Inspiration for the Grainsack Striped Crochet Pillow Pattern
I was perusing the web for inspiration and I saw some awesome striped pillows from Pottery Barn (made from grainsack-type fabric) and I thought that the stripe patterns would look great on a crochet pillow, so I set out to make my own!
I chose to use this pattern in the challenge this year because it met all my criteria:
- It’s easy enough for an advanced beginner (uses sc, dc and the reverse sc, or you can do another round of regular sc for the edging)
- It uses 2 skeins or less of yarn, preferably stash yarn (this took almost 1 skein of the MC and less than half a skein of the CC)
- It works up quickly! You might not think a DK weight pattern will work up quickly, but I found this did work up fast and I only worked on it while I was in the carline picking up or dropping off my sons.
I love the lemon peel stitch and you will use it in this pattern for the great texture it provides. It’s just an alternating single crochet, double crochet and it’s very easy, but gives pretty results.
Yarn Options for Our Crochet Pillow
You can use any DK weight yarn you like for this pattern. Feel free to use more than 2 colors, mix and match and just play around with it!
I used the aquamarine color of this yarn for my V-Neck Tank pattern and I had purchased the cream as an accent in case I wanted a lace border at the bottom of the tank. I didn’t go with the border so I had an entire skein of cream and around half a skein of aquamarine to play with.
So feel free to use up any and all DK weight yarn you might have in your stash for this easy pillow pattern!
