Design Story and Inspiration for This Easy Face Scrubby Pattern

It’s that time of year again where I design for my annual Holiday Maker’s Challenge!! This is the 7th year that I have done the challenge, and I’m excited to be doing it again!

I designed this pattern as part of the 2025 Holiday Maker’s Challenge, where we encourage each other to work to our holiday deadline. There are a few criteria for our patterns in the challenge, which are:

1. Uses stash yarn

2. Is easy to intermediate

3. Is small so it doesn’t take a long time to make

4. Is well received by gift recipients

This pattern fits the bill because you can make so many face scrubbies from a single skein of cotton yarn and they make great gifts!

Yarn Options for Face Scrubbies

You really want to use cotton yarn for face scrubbies. I design them every year for the Holiday Challenge and then I use them in my skincare routine – I really love them, which surprised me!

They also hold up really well in the washing machine. We don’t do any special washing – just toss them in the machine with the other clothes. They do get a little smaller, but then I love them even more!

You can use any cotton DK weight yarn in your stash that gets gauge.

Pattern Details for this Face Scrubby Knitting Pattern

This pattern has a built-in garter stitch border, which I enjoy on my face scrubbies. It’s a great way to practice cable knitting if it’s new to you as well.

You can also find these face scrubbies from previous years’ challenges:
Basketweave Face Scrubbies
Oat Stitch Face Scrubbies
Textured Face Scrubbies
