Common Questions about the Parquet Stitch
This stitch pattern is a multiple of 3 sts + 1 (add 1 for base chain). What this means is that the stitch itself is a multiple of 3 sts+ 1 and when you are making the chain you need to add one more for the turning chain. To begin a chain fo this stitch you would chain a multiple of 3 and add 2 more chains to get the correct number for the pattern repeat.
Besides the chain, this stitch pattern uses only single and double crochet, making it an easy stitch repeat to work and to remember.
This is an easy level stitch pattern because it uses only basic stitches that a beginner should be familiar with.
This stitch is a bit open, so it wouldn’t be the best for cold weather wear such as mittens. However, it can make a nice scarf, shawl, blanket or afghan, or other items that can have more of an open pattern.
How to Crochet the Parquet Stitch (Crochet Tutorial)
Materials
Yarn: You can use any weight of yarn for this stitch, although due to the open nature you will have some very large holes in the super bulky yarn range.
Crochet Hook: Use a hook that is appropriate for your yarn. If you are unsure of this, check the ball band on your yarn – it should have a recommended hook size.
I am using a worsted weight yarn with a size J/10 (6.00mm) hook.
Notions: Tapestry needle to weave in ends and scissors
Stitch Abbreviations
Chain (ch)
Single Crochet Stitch (sc)
Double Crochet Stitch (dc)
Written Instructions and Photo Tutorial
Chain a multiple of 3 sts + 2. This stitch pattern calls for a multiple of 3 sts + 1 and then adding 1 more for the foundation chain.
Row One: Sc in 2nd ch from hook,*ch 3, dc into same ch as previous sc, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * to end; turn.
You are working into every third chain. Working the double crochet back into the same chain as the single gives the dc a nice slant.
Row Two: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in first st, *sc into next ch-3 space, ch 3, dc into same ch-3 space; repeat from * to last ch-3 space, sc in ch-3 space, ch 2, dc into last sc; turn.
You are working a (sc, ch3, dc) in each ch-3 space from the previous row.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc into first st, ch 3, dc in ch-2 space, *(sc, ch 3, dc) in next ch-3 space; repeat from * to end, sc in top of turning ch; turn.
This row is similar to row 2 except for the beginning and end of the row. You still work a (sc ch 3, dc) in each ch-3 Space from the previous row.
Repeat rows 2-3 for stitch pattern.

Common Problems with the Parquet Crochet Stitch
I’m gaining stitches.
This can happen when you work into both the dc and the ch-3 from row 2. Remember to only work into the turning chain.
I’m losing a stitch.
This can happen if you forget to dc into the first st on row 2. You should always have the same number of stitches on each row.
