Looking for a quick and easy gift for a coffee or tea lover in your life? The Super Bulky Crochet Mug Cozy can be made in less than an hour!

super bulky mug cozy

There is just something amazing about giving a handmade gift and it being well-received. A couple of years ago, I gave my cousin a couple of handmade mug cozies with her favorite coffee and she was over the moon.

I love to make handmade gifts for the holidays, even if it is just something small. This gift whips up in less than an hour. Pair it with an awesome mug and some favorite coffee and you’re good to go!

Design Story and Inspiration for the Super Bulky Crochet Mug Cozy

For the Holiday Maker’s Challenge I create quick and easy patterns that can be given as gifts. Last year’s Quick and Easy Mug Cozy was a huge success, and many of you made and gifted it.

This year, I wanted to design one that was even quicker to make, so that if you needed a super-last-minute gift, you could still make one with very little time left before gifting.

I’m using up as much of my stash as I can for the Challenge, and I love shopping from my stash. Most all of the yarns in my stash are ones that I picked up at one point or another because I really liked them, so putting them to use gives me a lot of satisfaction.

About the Yarn

This is one of my favorite super bulky yarns, Malabrigo Rasta. I love the subtle color variations in it, and I’ve used this color in a sweater (which will be released later this season!), the Rasta Mittens, and the Simple Knit Headband.

This yarn feels amazing, and the kettle dye process makes the colors unbelievable. Even though these are just simple shades of brown, it really gives it something special.

You can substitute any super bulky yarn (size 6 weight), such as Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick, which is an affordable alternative with great colors and easy care.
