25 of My Favorite Free Thanksgiving Knitting Patterns
1. Farmhouse Dish Towels
You can never have too many dish towels. If you always seem to find yourself falling short of dish towels before laundry day (like me), why not make a few of these Farmhouse Dish Towels from Purl Soho. Despite they’re intricate appearance, they’re actually quite simple to make with just knit and slip stitches on circular needles.

2. Slip Stitch Dish Towel
This textured dish towel design is all about the slip stitch. You’ll be using slip stitch and knit stitch to make the main part of the towel out of the honeycomb stitch. There’s also an accent row made with the arrow stitch. In addition to being handy to have around in the kitchen, I also think this towel would look right at home in the guest bathroom.

3. Twistcloth Knitted Dishtowel
Turn up the texture with the aptly named Twistcloth Knitted Dishtowel. You’re going to love the easy 4 row repeat. All you need to know is how to knit, slip, purl, and purl 2 together. This is a great project for TV knitting, and it also makes for a nice and quick project to treat yourself with after finishing a large project.

4. Hand Towel
Have you seen these hand towel designs before that have the hanger on them? It really is a clever idea and so handy to have. You’ll never have to deal with another towel falling off your oven handle again. This pattern is made with the linen stitch and it features ombre stripes. There’s also a matching half apron design!
Designer: Kalurah Hudson for Knit Picks
Yarn: Knit Picks Comfy (Worsted Weight #4)

5. At Your Service Knit Cloth
Here’s another one of those handy hanging towels, and this pattern is even easier than the last one! You’re sure to make quick work of this seed stitch towel with a garter stitch border. The colorblock design is so trendy, and it’s also a great way to use up two partial skeins of yarn leftover from other projects.

Yarn: Lily Sugar’n Cream Solids & Denim (Worsted Weight #4)

6. Moss Stitch Table Mat
Of course, no list of thanksgiving knitting patterns would be complete without some knitting goodness for your table. This table mat can serve as a hot pad or a placemat. The pattern calls for thick and squishy T-shirt yarn and the lovely nubbly moss stitch. The moss stitch is really easy to learn and a great stitch for beginner knitters.
Designer: Julia Marsh
Yarn: Hoooked Zpagetti (Super Bulky Weight #6)

7. Ready, Set Placemats
Who says placemats have to match? The Ready, Set Placemats are sure to add eclectic charm to your Thanksgiving table. They are made with linen stitch and linen yarn too. You don’t have to make a yarn run for this one (unless you really want to!), just raid your scraps basket for neutrals and similar shades of a single unifying color like the blue shown here.

8. All Charged Up
You can finish these placemats in a third of the time with worsted weight yarn held triple. Not only does this save time, but it also makes these placemats extra thick and sturdy. Choose a cotton yarn for the best durability (preferably a machine washable one, because nobody has time to hand wash placemats). This design is worked in stockinette with built-in garter stitch border.

9. Déjeuner Napkins
Déjeuner is French for breakfast, but these napkins are sure to add elegance to any meal of the day. They look so much nicer than paper napkins, and they’re better for the planet too, so it’s really a win-win. You can make them using just knit and slip stitch along with increases and decreases in the form of knit 2 together.
Designer: Fibrely
Yarn: Louet Euroflax wet spun linen (Sport Weight #3)

10. Dotty & Dash Table Runner
Increases and decreases form a sea of dots with subtle texture. It’s easier to knit than the bobble stitch and it takes less yarn too. The raised bumps help keep hot pots off your nice table linens, and they look really nice too. If there’s ever a good time to whip out a handmade table runner, it’s definitely Thanksgiving!

Add a touch of rustic decor to your Thanksgiving table with hot orange, warm brown, and sage green. These quick and easy pumpkin napkin rings are sure to be the talk of the table! You can make them with knit and purl stitches along with increases, decreases, and slip slip knits. I think it would also be fun to embroider initials on them and use them to designate who sits where.

12. Thanksgiving Turkey Hat
Celebrate baby’s first Thanksgiving with a fun and colorful turkey hat. This basic hat pattern is knit in the round from the bottom up. The turkey feathers are worked separately and then attached. I’ll admit, I like this hat much more than other turkey hats with silly turkey faces on them. It keeps the focus on the cute kiddo!

13. Turkey Trot
The next one of our free Thanksgiving knitting patterns will be a friendly face to welcome guests on the porch, the mantle, or the table. The head and the body are worked in the round, and the feathers are worked flat. Everything is worked separately and then joined. I especially love how the designer embroidered the feet onto a little log perch.

14. Football Mosaic Scarf
For some families, Thanksgiving and football go hand in hand. You can represent your team colors with this fashionable mosaic scarf. My favorite part about the mosaic technique is that it only uses one color at a time. The pattern only calls for knit and slip stitches so it’s much easier than it appears to be.

15. Plush Football
Here’s another fun photo idea for baby’s first Thanksgiving. This plush football is knit in the round on DPNs using knit stitches, increases, and decreases. It is much softer than a normal football, and cuter too! Do you know a football-obsessed family who is expecting a baby very soon or who just had one recently?

16. Touchdown Dishcloth
Set the table in style with the Touchdown Dishcloth. This is such a fun way to show off your love of football, and it’s also practical. It’s almost too pretty to use as a dishcloth, but I think it would also work well as a hot pad or placemat. The design calls for knit and purl stitches along with increases, decreases, and slip slip knits.

17. Leafy Washcloth
These simple yet stunning leaves would be a thoughtful touch for the guest bathroom, alongside a bar of fall-scented soap (harvest apple, anyone?). It could also work as a coaster or a place setting. I know I have been saying this a lot, but this is yet another one of our free Thanksgiving knitting patterns that is easier than it looks. It’s knit in simple garter and stockinette stitches.

18. Pinwheel Coasters
There are quite a few crochet coaster patterns, but not very many for knitters. The designer Originally Lovely set out to change that with her beautiful pinwheel coasters. I think they will look like little leaf piles if you do them in fall colors. The coasters are made in one piece with knit and slip stitches along with increases and decreases.

The possibilities are endless with these clever letter tiles. 22. Mythos Wall Hanging
Give your guests something to admire while they wait for the thanksgiving feast. The design for the Mythos Wall Hanging is knit in the round and then attached to an embroidery hoop. This is a quick and cheap way to decorate a blank wall, and it could easily be scaled for larger wall hangings. I’ve even seen some wall hangings large enough to be attached to hula hoops!

24. Wine Bottle Sweater
If you are lucky enough to not have to cook the big dinner this year, then you might be on the lookout for a thoughtful gift for the hostess. Wine is a popular choice, but you can take it a step further and make it a little more personal with a wine bottle sweater. This design features cables and buttons and is knit in the round.
