This design may look difficult, but simple stitches make the Diamond Stitch Scarf a winner – and there is a video tutorial to show you how to work the diamond stitch!
Design Story and Inspiration for the Diamond Stitch Scarf
I designed this crochet scarf as part of the 2024 Holiday Maker’s Challenge, where we encourage each other to work to our holiday deadline. There are a few criteria for our patterns in the challenge, which are:
1. Uses stash yarn
2. Is easy to intermediate
3. Is small so it doesn’t take a long time to make (we have a lot of gifts to make, okay?)
4. Is well received by gift recipients
So I know you might think that a scarf doesn’t quite fit into some of these criteria – but this one does! It uses one skein of Lion Brand Scarfie yarn and works up super quickly with the diamond stitch.
Bonus is that it looks super impressive but the stitch is NOT hard to learn!
Yarn Options for this Free Crochet Scarf Pattern
I used one skein of Lion Brand Scarfie for my scarf and I really love the color changes in this yarn. I’ve made a Diamond Stitch Blanket, Diamond Stitch Pillow and also a Diamond Stitch Beanie with this stitch and yarn combo and I am in love. Like, seriously, I’m looking for even more projects I can make like this. 😀
You can use any bulky weight yarn you like, but of course one skein might not be enough to make a full scarf depending upon the yardage. Break out those scraps and do stripes, color blocking or whatever you wish!
Diamond Stitch Scarf Pattern Details
This scarf is worked back and forth in rows of double crochet, then single crochet and front post treble crochet.
You might notice that there is an extra stitch on one side of the diamond pattern. In the blanket pattern (you can view the video here), I did the stitch pattern as written, but it looked like it was wider on one side than the other, so an extra stitch was added and it works out perfectly!!
