Need a handmade item for a man in your life? Why not slipper socks? This easy pattern works up in a matter of hours for a perfect handmade holiday!

Design Story and Inspiration for these Men’s Slipper Socks

A couple of years ago I released a pattern for Bulky Crochet Slipper Socks, which were sized for women, and they have been very popular. They were also part of the Holiday Maker’s Challenge, and I thought a pattern for men was called for this year to complement them.

My oldest son (he’s almost 15) was kind enough to model these for me since the hubs had to work… he did a great job! 😀

I designed this pattern as part of the 2024 Holiday Maker’s Challenge, where we encourage each other to work to our holiday deadline. There are a few criteria for our patterns in the challenge, which are:

1. Uses stash yarn

2. Is easy to intermediate

3. Is small so it doesn’t take a long time to make (we have a lot of gifts to make, okay?)

4. Is well received by gift recipients

This fits the bill for these criteria, and I love how cozy they are (my son thinks so, too, and these are his size 10 feet in the photos!).

Yarn Options for this Free Crochet Sock Pattern

I used one skein of Red Heart Gemstone for this pattern. It took considerably less than a skein, though, considering I had already knit a pair of slippers from this skein, and had enough left over for this pattern. I love this colorway for men! (If you’re a knitter, you might also enjoy the Gemstone Knit Slippers.)

You can use any bulky weight yarn you like, just make sure it gets the same gauge so you end up with the same size as the pattern.

Men’s Slipper Sock Pattern Details

This pattern begins with the magic ring and is worked in the round to the top of the foot, then you work back and forth in rows to complete the heel section.

After the heel is complete, you work in the round again for the top of the foot. It’s all in double crochet and easy!

Construction is very similar to the Bulky Slipper Socks, and you can view that video here.

What You’ll Need

Yarn: Red Heart Gemstone (color shown is Olivine) or other Bulky Weight Yarn (Size 5).

Hook: US Size K (6.5mm)

Notions: Yarn needle, scissors, sock stop (optional, but recommended for walking on slippery areas)

Gauge: 13 sts and 8 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in dc

Finished Size

Sizes Small (Medium, Large) to fit Men’s shoe size 6-8 (9-11, 12-13)

Foot circumference 8 (9.25, 10)”

Foot length 9 (10, 11)”

Sample was made in the Medium and my oldest son is a size 10 men’s shoe modeling them for me

Abbreviations
Chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (sl st)
Double Crochet (dc)
Round (Rnd)

Pattern Notes

For a neater look, use a chainless dc instead of the ch 3 at the beginning of rows. You would just substitute a chainless dc in place of every ch 3. (See video tutorial of women’s version of slippers for help)

Ch 3 or chainless dc counts as stitch.

Slippers will have some “give” to them and will fit a range of sizes as shown above.

Men’s Bulky Slipper Sock Pattern

Make magic ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 7 dc in magic ring, pull tightly and join with slip st to top of chain (8 sts).

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around, join with slip st to top of chain (16 sts).

Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in next st, *dc, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around, join with slip st to top of chain (24 sts).

Size Small Only
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc 10, 2 dc in next st, dc 11, 2 dc in next st; join with sl st to top of chain. (26 sts).
Rnds 5-13: Ch 3, work even on 26 sts in dc, join with sl st to top of chain.

Size Medium Only
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc 2, 2 dc in next st, *dc 3, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * to end; join with sl st to top of chain (30 sts).
Rnds 5-14: Ch 3, work even on 30 sts in dc, join with sl st to top of chain.

Size Large Only
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc, 2 dc in next st, *dc 2, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around, join with sl st to top of chain (32 sts).
Rnds 5-15: Ch 3, work even on 32 sts in dc, join with sl st to top of chain.

All Sizes: Change to rows.

Row 1: Ch 3, dc 12 (14, 15) – 13 (15, 16) sts.

Work even back and forth in rows in dc until slipper measures 9 (10, 11)” from beginning.

Join with slip st to first st with outside of slipper facing you (turn if necessary).

Top

Round 1: Ch 3, dc one stitch into sides of rows to last row before slipper changed to rounds, dc2tog into side of last row and first st of round, dc across sts of last round, dc2tog last unworked st and side of first row, dc one stitch into sides of rows to end; join with sl st.

Rounds 2-5: Ch 3, dc in each dc; join with sl st.

Note: If slipper seems a bit loose at the top, decrease 3-4 sts evenly around on round 5 by working dc2tog.

Finishing

Use tail to stitch seam in ribbing and back of heel.

Weave in ends.

So, I really hope you enjoy this free pattern for these men’s slipper socks! I had a blast designing them and love that they are keeping some toes toasty warm. 😀

Happy Crocheting!

If you mean please make it easier to copy and paste my copyrighted content so you can print it, I’m sorry that you had to print the ads. That is how designers make money so we can keep providing free patterns such as this.

This pattern is part of a FREE event that you can get a 2-3 page PDF free just for signing up via email, so there was no reason to print from the webpage at all.

Do I use hook size J (6.0) or K (6.5)? The instructions say to use hook size J (6.5) but that’s not what any of my hooks are…

For the men’s version the K is the correct hook, which is a 6.5mm. Sorry about that! Looks like I hit the wrong letter when I was typing this out. I have fixed it in the post now. 🙂
