Let the yarn do the work when you create this self-striping simple crochet beanie pattern!  Worked in double crochet and post double crochet stitches, it works up quickly.

Design Story and Inspiration for This Easy Crochet Hat Pattern

I love this colorway of Mandala yarn and wanted to design a basic beanie that showed off the color changes.  I really wanted some texture, so I played around with using post dc stitches for some great stitch definition with a regular dc in between the sections – and I love how it turned out!

If you can chain and work the dc stitch, you can make this beanie – even crochet beginners!  Follow along with the step by step video tutorial and you’ll be on your way to making a hat our of basic crochet stitches in no time!  For you experienced crocheters, this is an amazingly quick project.

With mostly all fpdc stitches, you can really just unwind and relax after you increase the crown of this beanie, so turn on a show, grab a cup of butterfly pea lemonade tea, and get ready to finish your beanie in no time.

The post dc stitches give this the appearance of a ribbed beanie, which I really love and I can’t wait to wear this all winter!

Yarn Options for This Simple Beanie Pattern

This pattern uses Lion Brand Mandala yarn, which is a DK weight (category #3) yarn.  This yarn is so fun for its color changes, and is one of my favorite yarns to use for a variety of crochet projects.

Check out all the colors of Lion Brand’s Mandala yarn here, then come back and whip up this unisex beanie pattern for yourself or someone you love!

Feel free to substitute any DK yarn that gets gauge.  It’s a great stash busting project.  I had already made a lovely blanket with this skein of yarn, made this hat and still had plenty of yarn left over for another project.

Beanie Crochet Pattern Details

This adult crochet beanie pattern is worked from the top down beginning with a magic circle.  Increases are always made by working a fpdc around a regular dc stitch, then working a dc into the same dc.

The hat is increased until it is 80 sts, then worked even on 80 sts until the ribbed brim, which is made of fpdc and bpdc stitches.  (See instructions for abbreviations).
