Design Story and Inspiration for the Summer Haze Cabled Socks

I love designing socks, and I’m always looking for new stitch patterns and ideas for socks, so when I saw a similar cable to this I thought it would be perfect for socks! I hadn’t done a cable panel sock before, so I knew this was the perfect time to design a new pair of socks.

This cable pattern is made with an 8 round repeat using a 4-stitch cable, where you place 1 st on cable needle and hold to front; place 2 sts on a second cable needle and hold to back; ktbl; p2 from second cable needle, ktbl st on first cable needle. It sounds complicated but it only occurs on rounds 1 and 5, so it doesn’t slow you down when knitting these socks.

Yarn Options for This Cable Sock Knitting Pattern

I absolutely adore Malabrigo Ultimate Sock and love this colorway, which is called Peggy. The subtle color changes are amazing and I really love how they turned out! This skein of yarn was enough to knit these socks in the size large AND the Ray of Honey Baby Socks.

You can use any fingering weight yarn you like that gets gauge, and you can use dpn’s, the magic loop or one circular. I find myself going back and forth between designing with dpn’s and a 9″ circular. The pattern for these is written with a circular, but of course you can use any method you like.
