Design Story and Inspiration for this Easy Crochet Square
I love designing floral squares and wanted a smaller puff stitch version. Since we are in the beginning of the fall season now, I thought it would look nice in autumn colors, although, of course, it would look great in any colors.
I’ve created several other floral squares in different sizes but this one is a perfect 3 inch square, which is useful for a ton of projects. If you would like to make it larger, be sure to view the video for instructions on how to increase the size of this square.

Yarn Options for the Small Floral Crochet Square Pattern
I chose to use a worsted weight yarn for these squares and I love how they turned out. I used Premier Just Yarn from the Dollar Tree for all these – you could make a LOT of these squares from three colors of this yarn! Read more about Dollar Tree yarn here.
Really you could use any weight yarn you like. Just choose an appropriate size hook and give it a try! If you aren’t sure what size hook to use, look on the yarn label and most all yarns will give you a recommended hook size.

Crochet Hook: US Size J (6.00mm)
Notions: Yarn needle, scissors
Finished Size: 3″ Square
Gauge: 1 motif = 3″ Square
Stitch Abbreviations
Chain Stitch (ch)
Slip Stitch (sl st)
Single Crochet (sc)
Puff Stitch (puff st) – *yo, insert hook into st indicated and pull up a loop; repeat from * until 9 loops on hook, yo, draw through all 9 loops on hook

With A, make magic ring.
Round 1: 8 sc in magic ring, join with sl st to first sc, change to B.
Round 2: Ch 1, *puff st, ch3; repeat from * to last st, puff st, ch 1, dc in top of first puff st (8 puff sts), change to C.
Round 3: Ch 1, *(sc, ch 4, sc) in ch-space, ch 3, sc in next ch space, ch 3; repeat from * around, join with sl st to first sc – 12 ch spaces.
Round 4: Ch 1, *(sc, ch 4, sc) in ch-4 space, (ch 3, sc in next ch-space) 2 times, ch 3; repeat from * around, join with sl st to first sc – 16 ch spaces.
Fasten off.

With A, make magic ring.
